Profile Summary

Chen-Yuan Dong received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana under the guidance of Enrico Gratton in 1998. His doctoral thesis was on the development and application of pump-probe and two-photon fluorescence microscopy for biological applications. From 1998 to 2000, he received an NIH postdoctoral fellowship to work with Peter So at MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering where he gained additional experience in the development and applications of multiphoton imaging. In 2001, Dr. Dong joined the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University where he developed a biophysics and biophotonics research program. Dr. Dong’s group pioneered the extension of nonlinear optical microscopy in many areas of tissues applications as he is interested in both answering fundamental questions of physiological phenomena in vivo and the potential extension of optical imaging in clinical applications. Dr. Dong has published more than ninety journal papers and he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Biomedical Optics.
