SC1080: Modeling and Simulation with Computational Fourier Optics
This course explains the implementation of Fourier optics theory and concepts on the computer. A primary objective is to provide attendees with the capability of programming their own basic wave (physical) optics simulations to model diffraction, beam propagation, lenses, gratings, and imaging. The course includes a short review of Fourier optics theory, details of applying the fast Fourier transform (FFT), and approaches for implementing a variety of wave optics simulations. The methods discussed can be applied in technical software environments such as MATLAB, Mathcad, IDL and C. Examples are presented primarily in MATLAB but implementation in other environments is also discussed.
