Profile Summary

Olga Kocharovskaya is the Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Texas A&M University. Before joining the Texas A&M faculty in 1998, she hold the leading research scientist position at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the adjunct independent research scientist appointment at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. She received her Ph.D. from the N.N. Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University, Russia in 1986 and Dr. of Sciences (Habilitation) degree from the Highest Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation in 1996. Her research is in the areas of quantum and nonlinear optics, laser physics, x-ray optics, attosecond physics and quantum information science. She has co-authored over 220 scientific papers. Her best-known works are on electromagnetically induced transparency, lasing without inversion, “stopped light”, and shaping the waveforms of the single gamma photons via their resonant interaction with the nuclear ensembles. A fellow of both the American Physical Society (APS) and Optica (former Optical Society of America), she has earned the inaugural Willis Lamb Medal for Laser Physics and Quantum Electronics, the Association of Former Texas A&M Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Research, the Texas A&M University Distinguished Professor Award, and the APS Norman F. Ramsey Prize in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, and in Precision Tests of Fundamental Laws and Symmetries.
