Sawsan Abdul-Majid , received M.Sc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Varna University, Bulgaria, in 1984 and 1992 respectively. In 1993, she joined the Faculty of Engineering at 7th of April University in Libya,
In 1999-2003 she worked as optical Engineer at Global fiber optics / Mississauga and Optiwave Corporation/Ottawa.
In 2003-2008 she held faculty positions at the University of Technology and Koya University in Iraq, where managed an International project to establish Women Information Communication Technology (WICT) centers at Iraqi Universities.
Since 2008, she has been working as a Research Associate/ group manager at the Center for Research in Photonics at the University of Ottawa. Her work expertise is in the field of Silicon photonics, and nano photonics.
She has more than 25 publications, related to optical amplifiers, optical systems and silicon photonics
Dr. Abdul-Majid is a member of IEEE Canada, region 7 since 2003, and a member of IEEE/HIC committee since 2010.
