Profile Summary

M. Sezer Erkilinc received his BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2009. The following September, he joined Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, NY, USA to pursue a MSc degree, which was awarded in July 2011. His master thesis focused on content-based scanned document analysis using image processing algorithms.

In October, 2011, he joined the Optical Networks Group (ONG) in the Dept. of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at University College London, London, UK to pursue a Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Dr. Robert Killey and Prof. Polina Bayvel. His PhD, entitled as "cost-effective spectrally-efficient optical transceiver architectures in metropolitan links", was awarded in December 2015. During his PhD, he won the runner-up of the best student paper award in 2015 ECOC Valencia. He is one of the recipients of 2015 IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship and 2015 Association of British and Turkish Academics Doctoral Researcher Prize.

Sezer is continuing his career in the ONG as a Research Associate, investigating simplified coherent receiver architectures optical access networks. Sezer is a member of IEEE and SPIE and serves as a reviewer for Opt. Express, Opt. Letters and J. of Lightwave Technology.
