Shiv Sharma has expertise in the fields of atmospheric lidar, laser-Raman spectroscopy, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), FT-Raman and FTIR spectroscopy. He is serving as Co-Investigator for SuperCam instrument for NASA's Mars 2020 Rover mission. Shiv Sharma is author or coauthor of 275 research publications including papers published in the Proceedings of SPIE. Since 2003, he has presented over 170 research papers at various international scientific conferences. During 1993-2009, he has served as Associate Editor/Underwater Optics/LIDAR of the journal "Marine Geodesy" published by Taylor and Francis, Washington, DC. Since July 2013, he has been serving as one of the Associate Editors of "Optical engineering" published by SPIE.
Shiv Sharma is a life-time member of American Geophysical Union (AGU); Fellow of Mineralogical Society of America (MSA); Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India; Senior Member of Optical Society of America (OSA); a Fellow of Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS); and a Senior Member of The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE).
