To make sure that high performance Microchannel Plate (HP-MCP) can be applied successfully in Gen III Image Intensifier, vacuum baking test and trying out test are carried out first, then making ion barrier film onto input surface of HP-MCP, employing strict electron scrubbing test, and measuring resistance, gain in each stage, finally Gen III Image intensifier is manufactured with HP-MCP. As a result, many data concerning with HP-MCP are gained and the conclusions indicate: the HP-MCP can be applied in Gen III Image Intensifier, and can manufacture qualified product; thinking over batch production in the future, studying on the MCP' material and technique especially in compatibility between HP MCP and Gen III image intensifier is enhanced.
It is very important to investigate blemishes in intensified CCD (ICCD) because of the difference
in visual effect between direct observing image intensifiers and ICCD cameras for human. The
reasons which result in view field blemishes of low light image intensifiers are analyzed and relative standards of blemishes' dimension, quantity and distribution in different zones are introduced. Thinking of the blemishes stemmed from fiber optic taper and low light image intensifier, referring to relative standards of ICCD overseas manufacturers, the technical requirements of ICCD view field blemishes which fit to Chinese conditions and can be accepted by customers are provided. The relative contents in this paper will provide scientific basis for ICCD standardization work.
To improve the Figure of Merit (FOM) and reduce the Equivalent Background Input (EBI) and
Fixed-Pattern-Noise (FPN) in image intensifier, NVT (North Night Vision Technology Co., Ltd) has
been researching and developing a low noise and high resolution Micro Channel Plate (MCP). The
density of dark current of this new MCP is less than 0.5PA/cm2 (when MCP voltage at 1000V). The
FPN and scintillation noise are reduced remarkably. Channel diameter is 6 &mgr;m and open area ratio is
60&percent;∼70&percent;. The vacuum bakeout temperature could be as high as 500°C. This new kind of MCP will
be extensively used in the supper generation and the third generation image intensifiers.
