Abstract
This paper deals with a program of research in which the techniques and fundamental limitations of the restoration of degraded images is receiving study. The research program includes all forms of image degradation but this paper is concerned only with the case of degradation of the type encountered in looking up through the atmosphere with a large ground based telescope.
