Abstract
In the field of automated measurement and inspection, image processing systems gain more and more importance. Parallel to the fast progress in computer technology, new image processing systems become extremely powerful. This opens up the possibility of implementing more complex algorithms - e.g. model-based algorithms - without having to spend more computing time or to use expensive hardware. This paper describes current image processing procedures for coordinate inspection tasks. These procedures may not always be applied successfully; in practice, there are often rather noisy scenes, in particular when using incident light, or when using such systems in the production process. For safely handling such scenes, the authors propose a model-based approach, in which dust and texture can be filtered out automatically before an inspection task is performed.
