Abstract
Optical switching is a promising technology to replace electronic switches and meet the bandwidth and energy requirements of future data center networks. In this talk, we will review InP-based switches designed fabricated using a generic foundry approach. The performance of SOA and hybrid MZI–SOA based switches are described. The scalability of the hybrid switch is assessed using a recalculating loop resulting in the feasibility of an energy-efficient 128×128 switch has been demonstrated. Simulations assess the potential for even higher port counts.
