20 August 2020 The results of Goodman Technologies NASA Phase II SBIRs for additive manufacturing of mirrors and telescopes

Abstract
This paper shall discuss the results of progress made towards the manufacturing of Large Space Optics and Lasercom Telescopes conducted on two highly competed NASA Phase II projects. Mirror substrates were made using patent pending nanoceramic composite Silicon Carbide (SiC) materials via novel processes. NASA Phase II Contract #80NSSC18C0077 addressed the design and manufacturing of a 25-cm Pathfinder mirror substrate traceable SiC scalable to meter-class segments for a far-infrared surveyor (the Origins Space Telescope, OST). The technology also is intended to fill priority technology gaps for the LUVOIR Surveyor, and Habitable Exoplanet Observatory (HabEx). The second SBIR, NASA Phase II Contract # 80NSSC19C0138, addresses the manufacturing of an ultra-lightweight, ultrastable RoboSiC™ lasercom telescope. Laser Communications Telescopes are needed by multiple Jet Propulsion Laboratory and multiple NASA cost centers for Cislunar, Earth-Sun-L1 and L2, Deep-space and for Planetary Missions with Orbiter-Landers.
