Abstract
Based on the trend analysis and mutation analysis methods of the MODIS NDVI data set from 2000 to 2019, the characteristics of the temporal and spatial changes of vegetation coverage in the five northwestern provinces are analyzed. The results show that: (1) Affected by climate, topography and geomorphology, the vegetation coverage of the five northwestern provinces has obvious spatial differences, and the overall trend is increasing from northwest to southeast. The seasonal NDVI is summer, autumn, spring and winter in order from large to small. (2) Vegetation coverage in Northwestern Province has shown an overall steady increase in the past 20 years, but there are obvious differences within the year, with the fastest growth in summer vegetation. (3) The improved area (69.2%) of vegetation coverage in the past 20 years is much larger than the degraded area (4.00%), with obvious regional differences.
