Abstract
Civil aircraft Extended Operations (ETOPS) type design[1] and approval is studied. Firstly, the basic concepts of ETOPS are briefly introduced. The airworthiness requirements and approval methods related to ETOPS type design are sorted out. Through the study of airworthiness requirements and relevant guidance materials, a design process of obtaining ETOPS type design approval by using service experience method is proposed. The engineering practice shows that the design process proposed can guide the ETOPS type design and certification of domestic civil aircraft.
