Abstract
Nitrogen affects human production and life in many ways, and has a variety of impacts on the environment, so the environmental problems caused by nitrogen pollution have been widely concerned. China's Hubei Province ranks second in nitrogen pollution in 2021, behind only Guangdong Province. More needs to be done in terms of economic development and nitrogen pollution reduction. Per capita food nitrogen footprint (NF) of Hubei Province is selected as the dependent variable, relevant data from 1985 to 2021 and ARDL method are applied to verify GDP and NF is consistent with EKC hypothesis. Through analysis: (1) Average NF is 15.22 kg N yr-1 compared to 18.28kg N in 2021. The NF of urban households in Hubei Province is lower than rural. Consumption of animal food is growing rapidly. Amount of food consumed by rural households has decreased by more than 50%. (2) GDP and NF of Hubei Province conform to the "U" EKC curve. (3) In long run, urbanization rate and foreign trade dependence are positively correlated with per capita NF, but negatively correlated in short run.(4) Change cognition, strengthen environmental protection concept, change diet consumption concept, change diet structure, reduce food waste and other aspects to achieve nitrogen footprint reduction.
