Abstract
Aiming at the issues of low contrast, weak edges, and poor clarity of phase contrast cell microscopic images, which lead to the inability to observe cell features clearly, a phase contrast cell microscopic image enhancement algorithm based on sliding window and multi-scale Gaussian filtering is proposed. Firstly, an adaptive sliding window grayscale enhancement method is proposed to enhance the contrast and edge features of phase contrast cell microscopic images. Secondly, in the multi-scale feature fusion stage, the enhanced phase contrast cell microscopic images are filtered with a guided filter to suppress some noise and impurities. And the multi-scale Gaussian filtering weighted fused method is proposed to extract the structure image that contains edge and detail features. Finally, in the structure features enhancement stage, the guided filtered phase contrast cell microscopic images are differential of the structure features constrained by the adaptive enhancement factor to obtain the enhanced phase contrast cell microscopic images. The experimental results show that the proposed phase contrast cell microscopic image enhancement algorithm based on sliding window and multi-scale Gaussian filtering is superior to the existing traditional methods in subjective and objective image quality evaluation, and effectively improves the contrast and enhances the detailed features and edges of the cells in the phase contrast cell microscopic images.
