Abstract
Sensor level fusion performs the detection and recognition of targets in the realm of automatic target recognition (ATR) much more efficiently than pixel level fusion. The advantages and disadvantages of a combined sensor system containing both forward looking infrared (FLIR) and laser radar (LADAR) sensors are discussed in detail, and an architecture for this dual mode sensing system is proposed. The processes of detection and recognition in such a combined system are also examined in detail.
