Abstract
A novel photonic switching network is reported which exclusively uses frequency switching stages and a shared-medium architecture. It provides point to point and point to multipoint connections without internal blocking. This proposal is compared with similar published networks which also are constructed either solely from frequency switching stages or from frequency and space switching stages. It is shown that the proposed switching network features fewer optical and opto-electronic components, and a highly regular architecture.
