Integrated horn antennas consist of a pyramidal cavity etched in silicon and fed by a strip-dipole which is evaporated on a thin dielectric membrane suspended inside the silicon cavity [1,2]. In this paper a new feeding approach is introduced and studied. In this configuration, the feeding strip-dipole is printed on a thin GaAs wafer which is inserted in the integrated silicon cavity. The new configuration enables the monolithic integration of high-speed electronics with the feeding strip-dipole, resulting into a very attractive antenna structure for millimeter-wave applications. The antennas are designed to suppress substrate modes and are analyzed and optimized through the use of full-wave analysis.
