Abstract
The increasing demand on storage density poses new challenges to the equalization and detection techniques. In this paper we investigate the application of artificial neural networks for equalization in magnetic recording channels. Two methods are explored: case (1) uses a neural network based equalizer to perform equalization/detection bit by bit by using multiple samples per bit and case (2) uses a tapped delay line (TDL) to feed several bits into the network.
