Abstract
The generation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance is investigated. It is demonstrated that the exponential increase in the amplitude of the total field at the linear stage of the process may be accompanied by a periodic coherent exchange between the forward and backward waves in a sample. Transition to the nonlinear stage in a certain phase of this exchange determines the predominance of the transmitted or reflected wave in the pulse. The influence of the area of the initiating pulse and the sample length is considered.
