Abstract
Bloom filter is an efficient membership queries algorithm that can be used to increase network performance and security. This article considers usage of such a solution in different areas of network processing like IP Tracebacking, IP Lookup in routers or pattern matching in Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). It also contains a description of basic theory of Bloom filters, short overview of systems based on this solution and presents results in resource utilization (memory and logic cells) and throughput obtained in our implementations.
