31 October 1986 Analytical Derivatives in Damped-Least Squares Optimisation

Abstract
The paper describes the results, in terms of speed increases, of replacing the usual finite-difference derivative calculation by analytical formulae. The advantage increases with the number of variables. In practical cases so far studied, computer run times have been reduced by almost an order of magnitude.
