Abstract
Within the framework of adiabatic approximation the energy levels and direct interband light absorption in a strongly prolated ellipsoidal quantum dot are studied. For treatment of the "slow" subsystem modified Pöschl-Teller effective potential is used. It is shown that the low-energy levels of the spectrum are equidistant. Analytical expressions for the particle energy spectrum and absorption threshold frequencies in strong quantization regime are obtained. Selection rules for quantum transitions, absorption edge and absorption coefficient are revealed. Size dispersion distribution of quantum dots by the minor semiaxe by two experimentally realizing distribution, Lifshits-Slezov and Gaussian functions, have been taken into account.
