When I first came across this book by C. Davis in a local bookstore, the thought that came to mind was ‘‘Is this yet another introductory book on lasers and electrooptics?’’ So when the book review editor of Optical Engineering, Bradley Duncan, asked me whether I would like to review this book I agreed with my earlier thought in the back of my mind. A quick glance through the book on receiving it reminded me of a similar book by Siegman @Lasers, University Science Books, Mill Valley, CA ~1986!#.
