A method combining moire shearing interferometry and mirror surface translation to mea- sure the derivatives of the out-of-plane displacement of deformed object is proposed. In this technique, which is based on grating diffraction, only one grating is used. Instead of the usual inconvenient step of reflection coating of the surface of the object under test, the mirror surface translation method is used. Compared with other techniques, the proposed method is an easy way to obtain the derivatives of the deformed object, because only one ordinary grating (e.g. grating with a pitch of 0.005-0.01 cm) is used and a high sensitivity can be reached. For illu- stration the derivatives of a clamped steel plate with a concentrated force applied to its center is measured by this method.
