Abstract
In this paper, a compact, low-cost and open mobile sensor platform consisting of multiple ASCCbots for networked surveillance is presented. This platform is based on commercial off-the-shelf components and open source software. Compared to existing research platforms, our platform is reliable, reconfigurable and easy to duplicate. We develop novel algorithms for object detection on ASCCbot. Due to the distributed computing nature of the platform, we also conduct collaborative target localization, which is realized by fusing the data from omnidirectional camera, laser range finder and sensor pose estimation. The performance of the mobile surveillance system is evaluated through experiments. The results from the experiments prove that the proposed platform is a promising tool for networked surveillance research and practice.
