Abstract
We experimentally find that, for a communication system with many polarization dependent loss (PDL) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) components, the total PDL and the product of the maximum and minimum transmission coefficients (TmaxTmin) are wavelength dependent, even though they are treated as wavelength independent in most of the simulations. At a given wavelength, however, the PDL and PMD elements are concatenated, and the total TmaxTmin of the system is equal to the products of the TmaxTmin of each comprising element.
