Profile Summary

Currently a R&D Engineer in CyRIC (Cyprus Research and Innovation Centre), I started my academic career in 2004 at the University of Palermo (Italy), where I attained BSc and MSc Degrees in Electronic Engineering respectively in 2007 and in 2010. In 2014 I achieved a PhD degree in Photonics at the Optoelectronics Research Centre of the University of Southampton (UK). I then started working as a Development Engineer in Oxsensis, where I worked on optical pressure and temperature sensors for aerospace applications. After being promoted to Senior Development Engineer in 2017, in October 2018 I joined the Temperature & Humidity group as Higher Research Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory (UK), where I worked on optical temperature sensors for harsh environment until April 2020, before moving to Malta and joining Fizoptika as a R&D Specialist in July 2020, working on the development of miniature fibre-optics gyroscopes.

My knowledge, experience and interests cover different topics: optical sensors, material science and engineering, fabrication and characterisation of thin films and optical devices, photonics, optics and optoelectronics.
