Course Instructor
SC571: Organic Photonics and Electronics: New Technologies for Emerging Applications
This course provides attendees with a basic working knowledge of functional electronic and optoelectronic organic (molecular and polymeric) materials and their promising use in the fabrication of rigid and flexible photonics and electronics including flat panel displays, and solid state lighting. The focus will be on practical issues related the latest development and advances in materials discovery, and device fabrication and processing. For example, recently introduced phosphorescent materials, luminescent polymers, and photovoltaic organic materials will be highlighted. Moreover, fabrication techniques such as vacuum and liquid processing will be discussed. We will also present the exciting prospect of using low cost printing techniques such as inkjet, screen, and gravure printing in the fabrication of roll-to-roll organic based devices. Encapsulation, lifetime and reliability issues will also be presented. The course is designed as an introduction, and will survey the latest developments in this area.
