Recent experiments [Nature Physics 18, 1221 (2022)] revealed a superconducting diode effect in twisted trilayer graphene in the absence of external magnetic fields and with very large critical current asymmetry. In this talk, I will discuss possible microscopic theoretical explanations for this observation. We will see that the observed phenomenology crucially constrains the microscopic physics of graphene moiré systems. I will also discuss why a diode effect based on spontaneous time-reversal-symmetry breaking might reach higher critical current asymmetries than a diode effect resulting from breaking time-reversal symmetry explicitly by a magnetic field.
