Dr. Satish Viswanath is an Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University. He is an Associate Member of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as the Cleveland Digestive Diseases Research Core Center. He received his Bachelors Degree in Information Technology from Mumbai University (India) in 2004, his MSc in Medical Imaging from the University of Aberdeen (UK) in 2005, and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University (USA) in 2012. He joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University as Assistant Research Professor in 2012. In 2016, he accepted the position of Assistant Professor in the department, directing the INVent Lab, following which he was awarded promotion and tenure in 2023.
He has authored nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal publications, over 100 conference papers & abstracts, 1 book chapter, as well as delivered over 60 invited talks and panel discussions both in the US and abroad. He has 7 issued patents in the areas of medical image analysis, computer-aided diagnosis, and pattern recognition and is an Associate Editor for BMC Cancer, BMC Medical Imaging, and Frontiers in Nuclear Medicine, as well as a Guest Associate Editor for Medical Physics. He serves on the Program Committees for the Annual Meetings of SPIE, MICCAI, and ISBI, and is leader for the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center Machine Learning Working Group. He has been named one of Crain’s Business Cleveland “40 under 40” (2020), a Crain's Cleveland Notable Immigrant Leader (2022), as well as as elected to Senior Member in the National Academy of Inventors, the IEEE, and SPIE. In 2023, He was selected for a Fulbright Specialist Award, as a Notable in Education Leadership by Crain’s Cleveland, and for the SIIM Imaging Informatics Innovator Award. His research in colorectal cancers and digestive diseases has been continuously funded by DOD/CDRMP and NIH/NCI since 2016.
