Profile Summary

Sumith Bandara, Ph. D is a Principal Subject Matter Expert for Infrared Focal Plane Arrays (FPAs) at the U.S. Army Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) where he leads the effort on III-V materials based IR detectors. He was the technical lead for the Vital Infrared Sensor Technology Acceleration (VISTA) program which was responsible for establishing the industry base for III-V Strained Layer Superlattice (SLS) FPA technology. industry Prior to joining the NVL, he was a Principal engineer at the NASA- Jet Propulsion Laboratory and post-doctoral fellow at the Bell Laboratories –Murray Hill. He has over thirty years of experience in semiconductor quantum structures and infrared detectors and focal plane arrays. Dr. Bandara has authored and co-authored over 100 technical publications, including extensive reviews & book chapters, and he holds over 15 US patents.
