Prof.Murukeshan Vadakke Matham carried out his Ph.D at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in and at the University of Oldenburg, Germany under the DAAD Fellowship and was awarded Ph.D in 1997 from IIT Madras( INDIA). Since 1997 he is with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore as a faculty. He has 25+ years of research experience, and 20 plus years of teaching experience. He is a Fellow of SPIE, Distinguished Fellow of Optical Society of India (OSI), Fellow OPTICA, and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, UK.
He has given more than 40 invited, 25 plenary/Keynote talks and over 20 pedagogical lectures at major Conferences or workshops in the field of Biomedical Optics, Nanoscale Optics and Applied Optics for metrology. He has given many visiting lectures at optics chapters of SPIE through VLP programmes. Further, he is very actively engaging and coordinating optics outreach programs with local schools in Singapore and around through the Center for Optical and Laser Engineering (COLE). He has given many short term courses to engineers/practitioners in the industries and academia to update them about the latest in optical engineering through continuing education programs. He is currently serving as the Associate Editor of Optical Engineering and International journal of Optomechatronics. He is also a regular reviewer in leading Nature journals, optics journals that includes many SPIE and OSA journals.
He has authored over 200 international journal papers ( which include seven papers published in nature publication group journals, top impact biomedical and nanoscale optics journals), over 170 international conference proceedings papers/presentations, a text book and 6 book chapters. He is also inventor/Co-inventor of 23 patents ( Filed /Awarded) and 12 innovation disclosures He is currently the Director of Centre for Optical & Laser Engineering (COLE), and also the deputy director of The Photonics Institute (TPI), NTU.
